In his 36-year career, Steve Betando has worked as a teacher, principal, and superintendent in the California public school system. For nearly a decade he has served Morgan Hill Union School District. Aside from his work in education, Steve Betando is also a member of a number of professional associations including the American Association of School Superintendents (AASA), an organization that is a resource for education professionals in positions of leadership.
In January, the AASA announced that it had partnered with various education stakeholders to create a coalition devoted to making education more student-centered, forward-reaching, and equity-focused. Learning 2025: National Commission on Student-Centered, Equity-Focused Education seeks to bring together business leaders, school system administrators, and non-profit leaders to find ways to prepare students for the future and their careers.
The commission’s work will focus on devising recommendations that can be implemented at demonstration sites. In the course of developing these recommendations, the commission will also build a library comprised of contributions from progressive urban, suburban, and rural school districts.
